Veneto brings quantum technology to Brussels

Quantum Technologies for Cybersecurity: the Veneto Region's initiative

Doing activities to promote major digital innovation projects to European stakeholders.

This is the ultimate goal of the series of events promoted by the Veneto region’s digital agenda, started on Tuesday, April 9, at the region’s offices in Brussels with the workshop “Quantum technologies for cyber security” where several institutional stakeholders took part to expose the different initiatives and policies in the field of quantum technologies and on the occasion was also presented the Ven-QCI project – the Veneto infrastructure for cyber security – promoted in collaboration between the Veneto Region, the CAV (Concessioni Autostradali Venete) and the University of Padua. 

“This event is the first in a series following the domiciliation of Veneto Innovazione,” explained Carlo Clini, Director of Veneto’s European Union Relations Organizational Unit. “The strategy relaunched the Brussels office and also the domiciliation, in a broader strategy of shortening the space between the European Union and the territory, trying to bring the instances of the territory to Brussels and trying to be more present,” he concluded.

The use of quantum technologies in the field of cyber security is a trend in “great development,” explained Simone Capeleto, CEO of ThinkQuantum, a spin-off start-up of the University of Padua. Capeleto during his speech explained how the Veneto region in particular had “glimpsed this strategic trend and embraced the technology to invest in the security of the future.”

Among the Brussels-domiciled entities that have joined the initiative, Director Clini also mentioned VIMM, a foundation for advanced biomedical research in Padua, the Venice Port Authority, the Teatro Stabile del Veneto, the Municipality of Vicenza, the Municipality of Chioggia, and Veneto Innovazione, the last among the organizations domiciled in the European capital.
